Odds and Ends
November 11, 2010
I’ve been on the road, but wanted to post a couple of quick things.
One of my stops was Austin, Texas, a town which now has a love affair with their Mexican free-tailed bat population (although that wasn’t always the case). It’s a great story, which I’ll write more about later, but I did want to show you all this awesome tile, on the wall of the Austin Airport. How cool is that?
Second, Grist posted a nice article today about the growth of “model” sustainable cities (as opposed to refurbishing the ones that we already have). It’s interesting, with a lot of great links!

What a super-cool tile! If copies of the tile are for sale, I suspect you have some in your suitcase! 😉
What’s unique about a free-tail bat? (I’m trying to picture free tails as opposed to pay-for-view bodies of these bats.)
Mexican free-tailed bats are a species of bats 🙂 In some species, bat tails are “fixed” to their bodies’ membranes, and in other species they’re “free” (think of fixed ear lobes). They are a very cool species…and I will come back to them soon!
