Roof Tiles = Birdhouses?

January 9, 2013

I love the idea of finding nooks and crannies that can be modified to boost biodiversity in urban areas, so this struck me as a neat idea. Klaas Kuiken, a Dutch designer, created a roof tile that doubles as a birdhouse. Now, simply putting a box with enough space in it for a bird doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a suitable residence for birds (too often a problem with commercial birdhouses), so (as this article points out) he collaborated with the Dutch Bird Association to make sure that the specs of his design met the needs of urban-dwelling birds.

What a great idea, and the houses look adorable.
