52 Weeks of Urban Nature, Week Two

I’ve always loved the “shadows” that are left behind by fall leaves. Rain leaches the tannins out of the leaves and stains the pavement. It’ll wash off in a while, but they always remind me of cyanotypes — those “sun prints” we’ve all made by placing things on a treated piece of paper and exposing it to sunlight.

It’s been a rainy week here in and around DC, so lots of these shadows have been showing up, including these in Fairfax, Virginia.
